While we were on holiday last week, I decided it would be an interesting exercise to try to write a list of the words in Oscar’s current vocabulary. We know it’s pretty big for his age, compared to other children we know of a similar age, but I wanted to get a rough figure. It’s very much an inexact science, because it relies on us accurately remembering the words he uses and his vocabularly is constantly increasing. Still, it’s only to get an estimate and it’s a snapshot in time for my own amusement. We tried to ignore words or phrases he has only every used once, after repeating something somebody else said. I think we’ve also only included words he can use in the right context (although they may also be included in his monologues of streams of words “buses”, “dunnock”, “ducks”, “up”, “toga”, “mummy” etc).<\/p>\n
Anyway, the rough figure is just under 600. Published here for your amusement.<\/p>\n
